Alone with myself wrapped in the dark

Alone with myself wrapped in the dark
In the presence of nerves, sinew, tissue and bone
I can only seek and sense, not rest nor rise
Until I feel again the blessed light from your eyes

Listen!

This reminds me of the the words of John of the Cross......
' and may my eyes behold you, because you are their light,
and I would open them to you alone.
Reveal your presence,
and may the vision of your beauty be my death;
for the sickness of love
is not cured
exceept by you very presence and image ' ( Spiritual Canticle 10-11)

Gosh, that's amazing. I wasn't aware (at least consciously) of those lines from SJ. What inspired the poem was me waking at 3am to the sound of intense birdsong. It was just for a short time, but as I listened the first line came to me. ' I carried it on when I got up.
SJ's line 'may the vision of your beauty be my death' is really so deep. That is the line I will ponder on x
